Top winter sports – for all ages!

200 km cross-country-tracks, 30 ski-lifts and over 50 km well prepared pistes and 150 km cleared winter walking/hiking paths. Thiscertainly gives a superb basis for a winter holiday. (The Regional cross-country-tracks receive annually a prize from the Tyroleangovernment for their well groomed tracks). Something which is really special in the Achensee Region is its tracks for practising on.Tracks where stopping, turning, over-taking can be practised and confidence built! There are also tracks where dogs can run alongside!

Kids skiing in the village!

All levels of skiers – from novice to experts – can enjoy fantastic skiing in any of the 3 skiing areas in the region. Family skiing withyoung children have a great advantage here, as the young skiers can learn their skills virtually in the centre of the village – no travellingto the slopes and no lifts to conquer! Parents and Grandparents can look on as their “little ones” master their first snow-plough!

Leisurely lakeside walks or exhilarating mountain hikes

The Achensee Region has over 150 km winter walking tracks ranging from the relaxing stroll, enjoying the tranquillity of the lakesideto challenging mountain hikes. Discover the unspoilt landscapes on snowshoes – plunging through the deep snow in the Karwendelvalleys or through the idyllic village of Steinberg.A romantic horse drawn sleigh ride is a must on a winter holiday. Elegant Lipizzaner horses pull the sleigh through the winter wonderland.Five toboggan runs provide perfect conditions for tobogganists to drag their sleds uphill for themselves. Then they can head downhillat speed towards the valley on their own toboggans.

Romantic and Adventurous Events

The Achensee Events calendar ranges from the romantic pre Christmas scene in the village of Steinberg (1st to the 24th of December2010) to the life size nativity scene in the Achenkirch village museum “Sixenhof” (27th of November 2010 to the 6th of January 2011).Special events are held to celebrate New Year‘s Eve at Lake Achensee. A pre-New Year party takes place in Maurach on 29 December.Plenty of stalls serve mulled wine and ‚Zillertaler Krapfen‘ doughnuts. On 31 December 2010 things really take off with the annual NewYear‘s Eve swim. Brave souls plunge into the 4 degree waters of the Lake and battle it out for victory.
