Snowbiking is a new andexciting sport (the Achensee Region is the World`s first Snowbike Region) taking over from the original skibob. This sport is easy tolearn, even non-skiers can ride a snowbike in approx. 30 minutes. You sit on the bike, in a comfortable position, and just adjust yourweight from side to side and the bike makes the appropriate curve. In no time, you are riding down the snow slopes!

The mountaineering or touring skier has vast areas to explore in the Rofan and Karwendel Mountains – one of the most populartouring regions in the Tyrolean Alps. One route, for example, which is suitable for beginners, is the trail in Achenkirch to the “GröbnerHals” (1.650 m above sea-level). This route starts off at the Christlum (ski area) parking area and leads through the “Unterau” valleyalongside the X-country tracks before gently climbing through open fields to the “Gröbner” mountain hut and the small mountainpeak. Another more popular or classic tour is to the peak of the “Rofan” mountain. This route can be started at the top of the Rofancable-car and passes the “Erfurter” mountain hut over more difficult terrain to the mountain peak Rofanspitze.

An advantage in the region is that many of the touring routes are close to the skiing areas and therefore allows the various skiersalong with sunbathers to meet at any of the many mountain huts! The mountaineering tours are for both novice and experiencedskiers; from gentle slopes for the novice to sleep slope “freak”! There are popular routes and then again there are secluded ones. Asthe routes in Rofan Mountains are suitable for championships and therefore draw many professional skiers and also spectators in tothe region. As last year, the skill of skiers will once again be put to the test in March 2011 when the very best skiers battle it out as partof the „Achensee Extreme“ mountaineering championships. The „Austrian, Complete Tyrolean and South Tyrolean Championships“will also be held as part of the 2011 „Achensee Extreme“ event. The competition will also count as an ASTC (Austria Skitour Cup) race
